I filed a complaint with the E.E.O.C. After five and 1/2 months I finally went to their main office in Atlanta. The reason for this is that I did not know what my case number was nor did I know what the process was. They simply never sent me an acknowlegement. When I went there they were very nice and honestly knew what I was going through, and on the other hand what actually happend to me. My complaint was very detailed and documented. It was also sent to them by certified return receipt requested mail. When I went there I found that I did have a case number and there is a investigator handleing this. I found that the case actually existed when I recived a case number. I also recieved the name of the investigator that was investigateing my case. What I do not really understand is how long does it take before I actually go to the hearing? I am assumeing that I will be called or contacted when it is my turn. There is a long back log of cases in Georgia and I am confused as to how long it will take. I have lost my house and have gone chapter 7 after working for a major company for over 13 years. I am know liveing on social security with no medical benefits. I really need these benefits. I can not take the medacine I need and see the Doctors I have to see. I am 62 years old and I would honestly rather work. Any information or advice you are able to give would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum, Rick919.
The bad news is, ALL EEOC offices report that they are seriously backlogged. I personally did not go through the EEOC process other than the complaint that the Washington State Human Rights Comission complaint initiated which went no where *thanks* to a lazy investigator who only looked at a tiny part of my very detailed complaint. As far as your medical coverage, does the state of Georgia have a state social services agency (like Washington's Dept of Social & Health Services) where you can apply for social security related medical coverage? That is one of the medical programs I was once considered an expert in. There are also prescription drug programs available nation wide that you can access for help with your medications. I really sympathize with what you are going through *thanks* to a thankless employer.

Hi Rick919, I searched and searched for this same answer, and I saw answers all over the board, including folks who got almost immediate attention from the EEOC. My complaint was filed in person with the EEOC in early March 2009. The company responded to the EEOC in May. I've followed up about every other month to find out if it has been assinged to an investigator. I'm out of the Seattle office. So far the best estimate I have for my case to be assigned is Oct-Dec 2009, it would be assigned to an investigator, and then the investigation takes an indeterminate timeframe after that. Net, it's been sitting now for 9 months and nothing has happened except for the original complaint and the company's resonse. I wonder if they prioritize these things based on if the person is still working for the company? It appears you are not working for your company, and neither am I.
