toxic dispatcher

    hi, the new dispatcher who tells you the calls to pick up and drive to and from drs, hosp .etc is a nightmere, she is a rude, incompatent, person, she has made upset on a number of times, she sabatoges my work, she has a nasty tone of voice,she dosnt answer my calls in aproper timely fashion , in other words she is very disturbing, i am fed up i want to let them know that there is something i can do ,im begining to drop hints that i know a little about employment law but havent done so directly, i actuly want to take this person to court.

    lecky, as sad as this is to say, I don't think there is much you can do about this YET. Maybe OnYourSide sees something I am not........She sounds like a real bitch!!!

    It may be that everything is a matter of one's PERSPECTIVE -

    Probably every department has a 'dispatcher from hell' (or 2) ...that can drive you C-R-A-Z-Y at times ..... and maybe even endanger officer safety on rare occasion -

    On the other hand, the 200 - 300 officers/ deputies/ troopers/ park rangers in my area might gladly trade places with you and tolerate ...

    ...they have already been or are soon to be fired (i.e., loss to family of paychecks, overtime, off-duty jobs pay, health care - dental insurance, pension/retirement funding, loss of daily satisfaction of a job they love, etc).

    Maybe the glass is half-full or half-empty ...

    hang in there - just an ol' cop's 2 cents ....

    Yes, Partner ... it's the government budget vicious cycle -

    The more companies that cutback, go out of business or lay-off ... the fewer payroll and other taxes are collected by governments (local, county, state) so the more folks and officers get fired .... so less money to spend in the community which means companies/businesses cutback more - thus even less taxes - on and on ....

    But like stated in above post - it's all in one's perspective .... think of Detroit, reportedly near a 30% unemployment rate and rising !!!!!

    Yeah, I'm with lulu on this one, lecky - what you've described sounds like garden variety cranky co-worker stuff that you can't really do anyting about. At most, you could speak to her supervisor about it and hope that s/he'd speak to the dispatcher about having an attitude adjustment. But you haven't said anything that sounds remotely court-worthy - being rude, incompetent, not answering your calls as quickly as you think they should be answered, not being nice when she talks to you - those are all signs of a not very nice person - not signs of illegal activity. I don't mean to minimize what you're going through - I just don't see how any of it rises to the level of workplace violence or harassment or ... whatever you might be thinking. Sorry.

    Maybe you should try some good old fashioned people skills with her. Be super super nice and perky whenever you talk to her and if she has even an OUNCE of self-respect, she'll soon begin to feel guilty about being less-than-kind to you in return.

    Lecky, its really hard to give advice like I had to above because I *know* how desvastating that type of behavior is and how badly it affects your health, both physically and emotionally. However, I have a feeling that she WILL screw up at some point and give you that *smoking gun* that will give you a chance to file a complaint against her. Most bullies just keep escalating their behavior until they do something illegal.

    lecky, unfortunately there is no law against a physcho bitch like her. You can politely asks her to lower her voice down when answering calls and if there is something you can do to help her cool/calm down. " An answer when mild will turn away rage". Then if that will not work.......then go ahead and do what you wish----eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. he,he,he I will be happy to help you yell back @ her in my own language@#*
    Seriously lecky, more likely her attitude has nothing to do with you. SHE IS JUST A MISERABLE BITCH WHO PROBABLY NEED TO HAVE A SMOKE........I have a co-worker that would go into a convulsion(rage) about anything if she can't have a smoke break.

    Hi,is there a way i can file an harassment report on this dispatcher, i know she is not responding to my signals in the proper way, sometimes i have to call two three times just to get threw, i have patience in the van, i have to drive i cant keep calling, i also feel the bosses allow her to do this, the supervisor has also written a letter to me and pretty much atacked my character, he wrote the letter after i told him i didnt like the meeting he pulled with me and the dispatcher in august, i know the meeting was made to make me feel cornered, i felt harassed, the conversation had nothing to do with the job. im feeling a bit angry, what can i do , i have the letter.

    That sounds like a really good question for OnYourSide. It doesn't seem right to me that this dispatcher is NOT responding to your calls especially when she knows you have patients on board.

    The only person you'd file a harassment report on this dispatcher WITH is her supervisor, who I presume is also YOUR supervisor. It's really NOT a harassment complaint, though - it's a pissy, uncooperative co-worker complaint, as we told you before. If you're looking for a government agency to take up your cause, there isn't one. You're not protected from pissy, uncooperative co-workers.

    I would suggest that probably the best thing you could do to protect yourself would be to write a letter to the boss explaining that it's your observation that the dispatcher is less-than-timely in responding to your calls, and you feel this could be putting patients/riders at risk when you have to call repeatedly.

    Lecky, I will suggest you tape every calls to her now. There should be a tiny/ micro-tape recorder you could attach to your phone receiver. Or use your own cell-phone. If quiet you should be able to tape her yelling at you. I tried doing that on a FOREIGNER concert in the park and all I could hear is myself singing my heart out of tune!LOL
    And a co-worker recorded a manager's stupid response to his request that he took to the HR and HR reprimanded manager(maybe just a flick on the wrist) he did it using his cell-phone recording capability. It worked!

    Hi , ijust want to say that ive started recording the dispatcher and as i play it back it is so abvious that she is harrasing me.and when i leave im going to let the owners listen to the tape cause when i do leave ive done two things, one is to show the owners that its been her all the time,and come reference check they should remember this,and not have anything negative to say,and i get to hold my head up hi when leaving this job. thank you

    Good Job Lecky, to me this is a communication system, and you should be allowed to tape it just like how an ansering machine /voicemail does on a landline phone when no one's home to pick up the receiver!!!!!........
    The BITCHY dispatcher is heading for awakening!!!......Umm, I wonder how she will re-act when she hears how mean and WITCHY she is. JUSTICE Lecky, JUSTICE(LOL)

    Hi,yesterday ,i called the other dispatcher,it was evening, this is the evening dispacher, she ok ,but she has issues, she flyes off the handle very quickly, anyway yesterday with this daylight savings time i wasnt having a good day driving in the dark ,three different road blocks, cranky clients,at one point during the night i called the dispacher to tell that the lift that lifts up the clients was not fully in safe working order and that it is a saftey issue,she said ok i let them or the machanic know so they dont let the truck go out in the morning, i said ok thanks,at the end of my shift i go into to the office and give her my paper work, and i say boy i had i misarable day with the truck and the road blocks and cranky patiants,she said sam is in the garage go tell him about the the truck to see if he can fix it,i said i dont want to talk to sam, she said why not, i said i have my reasons, i really dont have any reasons,i dont care for the guy, but i just wanted to go home,i had enough, os she starts to raise her voice so i put the recorder on and we go at it , she says its not my responsablity its yours and if dont want to due your job go home ill tell him and come in at 12 oclock tomorrow,i said i thought you were gonna tell him , she said i was gonns leave a note for the other dispatcher and tell her not to send the truck out, i said ok i write it up and put it in the machanics mail box,she is yelling and no i go you go home, i said why are you talking to me like that, she says im not in the mood to hear any bodies b.s. if you dont want to do your job go home i said i cant the note and put it in the machanics mail box, and i said as she is walking away, you dont have anyright to talk to me like that, i can put the letter in the mail box and left while she was still babaling, i have it on tape, i dont know what there gonna say today.was i out of line.thanks

    Lecky, the tape is good for proving what a bitch she is! If the big boss is smart he/she will take this as an insight on how she perform her duty as a dispatcher and how she treats co-workers as well. It will not be admissable in any litigations/court hearings. Judge will throw it off the case.
    No, you were not out of line.....you just had enough with her b.s.! You make sure you tell them that this is not the first time that she did the yelling and babbling which is very unprofessional that's why you decided to record it. Well, let me add that you did a good job of antagonizing her. She is very short tempered and to me you push the exact button. Just think of it as your strategy of proving yourself to the BOSS. Lecky,I hope this will work best in your situation......be relieved from a bulleying dispatcher:):):)

    Hi, this is the new dispatcher, not the one who dosent answer my calls, but get this, the new dispatcher who i had the incident the other night post count 405 wrote a letter to my supervisor repeating the words i said to her that night, she says that i said i had a bad day and that i cant wait to leave this job and that im looking, and that she ask me to ask the machanic to see if he could fix the truck and i said i dont want to talk to the machanic and she said why and i said i have my reasons, but i really dont have any issues with the guy, i dont care for him , so she says if you dont want to do your job go home and gets up , and thats when i said,i thought your told the mechanic ,so she says if you dont want to do your job go home again , i no ill write the note and put it in the mechanics mail box,by this time shes yelling and i said why are you talking to me, and she says im not in the mood for anybodies b.s. and i say as she is walking away into the garage, you dont have any right talking to me that way, and she says i was following her as i was talking to her ,i only went to the garage door to point out thats where the mechanics mail box isand to let her know she has no right talking to me that way, so i was even more honest with the supervisor,he says to me that he sees a change in me that im like jekel and hyde,and i said ok, this is the reason for that, and its because im seeing a REMD therapist for my post tramatic stress disorder,and that im very raw,as in vonerable,well he listened, and from what i got from him he understands, he goes over the letter a few times, and i contine to tell him i had a bad day and i didnt want to talk to any one that night and just wanted to go home, so he says this will be in my folder and that he will chalk it up to being a bad day ,o he also wanted to rule out race, i said no way , why would he say that, did she say something or was it him saying that who knows at this point,any way i said all i was doing was excercising my freedom of speech when i walked in the office to give her my paper work,yea i could have been coperative with her and gone over to talk to the mechanic but i didnt , and thats when she went bannas,i ask the supervisor is that letter gonns hurt my reference, and he said no ,but if the new employer asks , something why was he fired, they might say he was not up to our standards,but you make your own jugdement. he may be good for you, and said why do you have to keep this in my folder he said as a paper trail,i said i worry about that i have a family and for future reference, he said that im not gonna hurt any body, he said that he wasnt gonna make any suggestions concerning this letter, but in the future if any thing else arises, they will start looking at suspensions or terminations, i may have a new job offer next week but i feel that i want to wright a complaint letter about her, but fear other retailiation, come refference time, im glad i was honest with the supervisor it puts me in a protected class, but i dont want to leave on a bad note, i even said i would leave on good terms , i said that cause im getting ready to leave, he said something like what goes around comes around a little healthy fear i say. whats my best exit, dont forget i have this law suit pending that i have to give a depostion, so im trying to be tackfull. what do you think. thanks

    OMG - you are SURROUNDED by crazy, mean, vile dispatchers aren't you??? Just try to keep your wits about you and try to hold your tongue. I know that what you want to do is tell them off in no uncertain terms but you just need to hold it together so you don't affect your lawsuit. I say this because I have a 2nd step grievance meeting on Monday morning that is going to be a TOTAL WASTE OF TIME and then my unemployment appeal hearing with my attorney in the afternoon (it was rescheduled from today to Monday as my attorney got called into court on the trial he has been involved with for the past several weeks) and I am in a really pissy fed up mood. I already warned the union rep that he will probably have to kick and elbow me for the ENTIRE grievance meeting because I am tired of getting shit on......

    Hi,i just want to report that i gave my one weeks notice, im leaving november 19 2009,im still getting treated poorly, so im thinking to leave tomorrow, and say i dont need this anymore, its like they are treating me like an enemy, but they try to do it in a way thats not to direct, i dont care about the lawsuit, he has insurance and it was an accident, i got the other job with out using them as a reference, i am pissed.
